Course Objective

This course aims at telling students about the development of civil society and democracy in Turkey within a historical perspective

Course Content

The courses will focus mainly on three points. It will firstly analyze the basic debates on how to understand Ottoman and Turkish political system. It will secondly stay on the relationship between state and society through a special emphasis on civil society organizations. It will finally concentrate on the relationship between state and society during the Republican Turkey. This issue will be specifically emphasized through debates on civil society and democracy
