Course Objective

The aim of the course is to examine the principles of international law related to the use of force in the international community. Derste will examine both the jus ad bellum on when it will be legitimate to apply for force use and the jus in bello on the use of force after hostility. When examining the rules for applying for force, the principle and exclusions that use of force is forbidden will be emphasized. Topics such as self-defense, humanitarian intervention, self-determination, use of force with UN consent, concepts of armed conflict and war, protection of civilizations and the application of humanitarian law are among the topics to be examined.

Historical development of international humanitarian law, definition of the term humanitarian law, scope of application of humanitarian law, silent conflicts, combat actions, place of war, combatants and non-combatants, methods and methods used in armed conflict, military targets, protection of civilian targets, Protection of the people
