Course Objective

The primary objective is to train students on thinking, developing, and producing a thesis proposal as per the university thesis guidelines in addition to exposure to independent scientific thinking, formulating research questions/research questions/thesis, proper literature review, and sound methodology. At the end of the term, students who have succeeded in this course should able to:

  1. Demonstrate proper understanding of the structure and requirements of the thesis proposal
  2. Demonstrate an ability to effectively formulate original research questions, argumentative, and coherent essay. 
  3. Formulate a full thesis proposal reflecting an understanding of h methodological and ethical issues.
  4. Showing the ability to evaluate thesis statements, objectives, and methodologies objectively, critically, and constructively.
  5. Develop the skills of research argumentation, presentation, and defense
 

 

 

Course Content

In this course, students learn how to develop a thesis proposal according to the proper research methods and ethics while developing their skills in writing research design and conducting research in their respective fields. By the end of the semester, students will produce a full thesis proposal taking all the constructive feedback provided to them. The seminar consists of weekly lectures, instructions, and meetings for thesis completion, debates, presentations, and defense of research topics.

 

Attention will be given to the development of research questions on the basis of debates on the current state of research, issues of coherence, format and style, logic and argumentation, boundaries/limitations, originality, novelty, and scholarly contribution.  Teaching methods involve lectures, group discussions, student presentations, exchange, and discussion with both teacher and peer feedback. Teaching materials include lecture notes, IZU Thesis manuals, samples of thesis and dissertations, and other pertinent reading materials.

 

 

 

 

The course informs students about the technics and methods of how a thesis proposal is formulated according to the standards accepted by the Sabahattin Zaim University
