Course Objective

The aim of this course is to give information about analysis technique and technology to experts who are working in the field of architectural conservation and to enable them to gain the necessary application experience and to increase the quality of their field works.

Course Content

Introduction to traditional and optical surveying techniques for measuring historical structures. Application of instrumental survey techniques for single-structure documentation. Preparation of damage, material, and period analysis drawings at the single-structure scale. Urban-scale documentation, damage status, and urban fabric analysis.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Learn traditional and advanced technical surveying methods in practice.
  2. Gains the ability to express survey studies using two and three-dimensional hand drawings and computer technologies.
  3. Gains knowledge about the conservation approaches and principles of a historical building.
  4. Understands the importance of teamwork in documenting a historical structure.
  5. Understands the importance of documentation studies on historical areas and the techniques to be used in contributing to the formation of architectural heritage.
  6. Have knowledge about carrying out survey documentation and analysis studies on a city scale.
