Course Objective

This course will cover the fundamental theoretical and practical principles of the art of photography. The aim of the course is to introduce students to the practices, methods, and topics of discussion related to the art of photography.

Course Content

This course will cover the history of photography, cameras, and the mechanisms and operating principles of cameras. In addition, topics such as shooting techniques, image interpretation, light, composition, framing, aesthetics, creativity, and the role of photography in communication processes will be addressed.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. They will be able to demonstrate fundamental skills in seeing and photographing what they see.
  2. They will be able to evaluate the role and importance of the photograph—and thus the static image—within broader communication processes.
  3. They will be able to discuss the historical development of the art of photography.
  4. They will be able to discuss fundamental elements such as lighting, composition, light, framing, and exposure in the photograph.
