Course Objective
To gain knowledge about the historical development and areas of spread of Turkish; to understand the place of Turkish among the languages of the world; to recognize the concepts of dialect, accent, dialect, slang, jargon, artificial languages, lingua franca, pidgin, creole, esperanto, common language, spoken language, written language; to gain knowledge about the Turkish alphabets used throughout history; to recognize the linguistic heritage created in the successive historical eras of the Turkish language; to gain the ability to compare the periods and linguistic features of Turkish, to gain knowledge about the dialects of the Turkish language from east to west and from north to south.
Course Content
He/she knows the developmental stages of the Turkish language from past to present, classifies the historical dialects of the Turkish language, knows the linguistic features of the historical Turkish dialects, has information about the researchers who carry out studies on the Turkish language and their works, recognizes the oral and written sources of the Turkish language.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Recognizes the first products created within the new geographical and cultural environment.
- Understands the status of the Turkish language in the pre-Islamic, post-Islamic, and modern periods.
