Course Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the major theories and approaches of psychotherapy and to develop their understanding of the theoretical foundations, basic concepts, and therapeutic processes associated with each approach. The course also aims to help students compare different psychotherapy models and gain practical insight into how therapeutic techniques and interventions are applied in clinical practice.

 

Course Content

The course covers major psychotherapy theories and their clinical applications, including psychoanalysis, Adlerian psychotherapy, analytical psychotherapy, client-centered therapy, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and ego psychology. Particular emphasis is placed on the basic assumptions, therapeutic processes, techniques, and practical tools of each approach. The course also includes practice-oriented sessions and an integrative workshop designed to help students compare and integrate different therapeutic perspectives.

  1. Integrate therapeutic tools into practice through role-playing, case studies, and clinical exercises.
  2. Evaluate the cultural, ethical, and professional considerations in psychotherapy.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to critically analyze psychotherapy research and its applications.
  4. Describe the theoretical foundations, assumptions, and goals of major psychotherapy models.
  5. Identify and apply the basic techniques associated with each therapeutic approach
  6. Compare and contrast different theories of psychotherapy in terms of strengths and limitations.
