ECTS: 5 T+P+L: 3+0+0 Departmental Elective
Coordinator: Dr. Öğr. Üyesi Ayşe ALTUNKAYA ERDOĞMUŞ

Course Objective

This course is an in-depth study of attention and memory. Within the scope of this lesson, attention and memories are studied extensively in terms of clinical and neuronal influences on learning and behaviors in the study of mind processes.

The aim of this course is to provide students with an understanding of the fundamental concepts, theoretical approaches, and experimental findings related to attention and memory processes. The course aims to enable students to explain the processes of attentional selection and maintenance, as well as the encoding, storage, and retrieval of information; evaluate the relationship between attention and memory; and relate these processes to examples from everyday life, education, and clinical psychology.

Course Content

The course covers the definition and types of attention, selective attention, divided attention, sustained attention, theories of attention, automatic and controlled processes, working memory, sensory memory, short-term and long-term memory, encoding, storage and retrieval processes, implicit and explicit memory, episodic and semantic memory, forgetting, false memories, autobiographical memory, metacognition, the neuropsychological foundations of attention and memory, and attention and memory disorders. Current experimental studies and the implications of these processes for everyday life, education, and clinical practice are also discussed.
