Course Objective
The aim of this course is to develop in students a detailed understanding of Turkey – EU Relations.
Course Content
This course analyses Turkey’s integration process with the European Union. It looks at the historical, political, economic, cultural and social relations between Turkey and the EU. In doing so, the course focuses on the issues influencing Turkey’s EU membership bid such as identity, geopolitics, security, conditionality and institutional issues. It finally looks at the debates on the future of Turkey’s integration with the EU.

Course Learning Outcomes
- understand the historical background of Turkey – EU relations with its political, institutional and legal dimensions.
- analyse Turkey – EU relations within the context of EU enlargement process with a comparative perspective.
- critically analyse issues influencing Turkey’s EU membership bid such as identity, geopolitics, security, conditionality and institutional issues.
- demonstrate the ability to articulate ideas to others in a clear and concise manner both orally and in a written format.
