Course Objective
The aim of this course is to construct an analytical framework that helps students understand the dynamics of nationalism and nation states around the world.
Course Content
Focus will be given to major approaches to the study of nationalism. The course puts a strong emphasis on how discourse on nationalism creates connections between past, present, and future.
Course Learning Outcomes
- Students will have working knowledge on key concepts such as ethnicity, nation, nationalism, nation-state and their historical background
- Students will learn about primordialist, modernist, and constructivist approaches to nationalism and the major differences among these approaches.
