Course Objective

This course aims to introduce students to the fundamental concepts, principles, and practice areas of public health by connecting them to a social work perspective. Students will analyze social work approaches to protecting and promoting health at the individual, family, and community levels, and develop a critical perspective on health inequalities, social determinants, and health policies.

Course Content

Historical development of public health, basic principles, preventive health services, social determinants affecting public health, introduction to epidemiology, combating infectious and chronic diseases, mental health, environmental health, health inequalities, health policies and contributions of social work to public health.
