Course Objective
The aim of this course is to enable students to use common medical language correctly and effectively in professional communication by familiarizing them with the basic structures of medical terminology used in health sciences, root-prefix-suffix relationships, and the correct spelling, pronunciation, and meaning of terms. The course notes provide a basic framework covering the Latin and Greek origins of medical terminology, spelling and pronunciation rules, and the logic of term analysis.
Course Content
This course covers an introduction to terminology, the historical development of medical terms, the pronunciation and spelling rules of terms of Latin and Greek origin, the basic structures of terms, roots, linking vowels, compound roots, prefixes, and suffixes. It also analyzes roots and derived terms related to body parts and the musculoskeletal, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, nervous, and sensory systems.
