Course Objective

The course aims to convey the basic architectural and artistic actions, styles and products/works that have an important place in history, together with the furniture and space designs of the period.

Course Content

The content of the course consists of the emergence, development and transformation of works of art and architectural products that took place in the historical process from the "invention" of architecture, space and art to the 18th century.

Students who learn to analyze an architecture / interior architecture / art / furniture product with context, technical, aesthetic and historical data, while reinforcing their knowledge with exams, they also learn what they have learned in the form of a research assignment and presentation on an architectural or artistic product / phenomenon / understanding / style. transfers.

Required Resources

During the face-to-face training, theoretical exchanges/presentations given in each lesson will be partially uploaded to the relevant interface and shared as lecture notes.

Explanations

1. There will be a midterm exam, a comprehensive final exam and a final assignment (presentation and submission).
2. Exam dates are as announced in the table. The topics of the exams will be announced in a reasonable time. Make-up exams will be given for exams that are not taken within the framework of excuses accepted according to IZU regulations.
3. The midterm exam covers the topics up to the exam date, and the final exam covers the topics covered throughout the semester. The date, time and place of both exams will be announced by the Dean's Office.
4. The subject, content of the end-of-term homework and what is required will be announced during the course the week after the midterm exam. The assignment will be in the form of presentation and submission. Presentations and submissions will be made on the last class day of the 14th week. Submission without presentation is considered as incomplete submission.

Rules

  1. Attendance: It is the university policy that attendance is compulsory.  A student missing more than 30% of the total allocated course hours will receive a WF.
  2. Getting Help: Students are encouraged to consult their instructor during office hours, by appointment, or through the Math Learning Center. However, before seeking help from anyone, make sure you read your lecture notes and textbook. See the examples similar to the problem in question then try to do the problem yourself. It should be emphasized that students who miss a class without a valid written and/or legitimate excuse will not be offered a one-on-one lecture discussion during office hours to substitute the missed class.
  3. Academic Misconduct will not be tolerated.  You are expected to submit your own work. Copying, cheating or plagiarism, when detected, will result in an XF grade in the course for all who are involved (i.e. it does not matter if somebody copied your homework, project etc., you are guilty as well).

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. To have learned how to do research on a historical building/architectural product/artwork/space and furniture design and to present the results in an academic framework.
  2. To examine architecture, artwork, space and furniture conceptually, semantically and historically.
  3. To master the architectural and artistic styles that have emerged in the historical process and to be able to define these styles.
  4. To be able to analyze any historical building/architectural product and work of art together with technical, aesthetic and historical data.
  5. Having information about the basic constructive elements of art.
