MBZ 335 - Morals and Ethics in Education

Course Objective

The aim of this course is to help prospective teachers recognize ethical and moral issues they may encounter during the educational process and to develop conscious and responsible attitudes towards these situations. Teaching is not only about transferring knowledge but also about embodying and promoting values that serve as a role model for society. Therefore, the course supports teacher candidates in understanding professional ethical principles, moral responsibilities, and sound decision-making in educational contexts. In this way, students are prepared to become fair, responsible, and virtuous individuals both in their professional careers and in their social lives.

Course Content

In this course, the following topics will be covered to contribute to the professional development of prospective teachers: Basic Concepts, Theories of Morality and Ethics, Ethical Principles, Ethical Rules, Professional Morality/Ethics, The Teaching Profession in Its Social, Cultural, Moral, and Ethical Aspects, The Right to Education and Learning, Ethical Principles in the Processes of Education, Teaching, Learning, and Evaluation, Ethics in Relationships Among Educational Stakeholders, Ethical Responsibilities of School Administrators, Parents, and Students, Unethical Behaviors in Professional Life, Ethical Regulations in Public Administration, Education, and Teaching in Turkey, Unethical Behaviors, Ethical Dilemmas, Problems and Solutions in Schools and Education, Moral and Ethical Education and Ethics Committees in Schools, The School Principal and Teacher as a Moral/Ethical Leader, Ethics in Educational Supervision, and Ethics in Educational Research. Through this content, students will gain knowledge of professional ethical principles and develop conscious and responsible approaches to challenges they may encounter in educational settings.

Explanations

The midterm exam is 45 minutes long, and the final exam is 60 minutes long.

Assessment:

Midterm exam accounts for 30%, homework 10%, book reading assessment 10%, and the final exam 50%.

Rules

In order to take the final exam, a minimum of 70% attendance is required.
