Dersin Amacı
Bu dersin temel amacı, öğrencilerin herhangi bir konuda araştırma önerisi hazırlamalarını sağlamaktır. Dersimizde ana hatlarıyla dört husus hedeflenmektedir: Birincisi, öğrencileri, toplumsal veya siyasal bir sorunu/konuyu bir yüksek lisans veya doktora tezine dönüştürecek bilimsel ve metodolojik bakış açısına kavuşturmaktır. İkincisi, öğrencilerin bilimsel araştırma yöntemleri ve teknikleri hakkındaki eksiklerini gidererek herhangi bir konuyu bilimsel araştırma yöntemlerine göre hazırlamalarını sağlamaktır. Üçüncüsü, İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü Tez Yazım Kılavuzu’nun içerdiği kriterleri öğrencilerle paylaşarak Kılavuz’un içerdiği ilkeleri özümsemelerini temin etmektir. Dördüncüsü, her öğrencinin bir konuyu seçerek bununla ilgili bir tez önerisi hazırlamasına imkan vermektir.
Ders İçeriği
Ders öğrencilerin tezleri veya çalışmak istedikleri herhangi bir konu hakkında bir tez önerisi yazmalarını sağlamaktır. Bunun için gerekli bilimsel yöntemler ve yazım teknikleri öğrencilere öğretilir

| 7 | Formulating Research Questions | In this week, we will define topics as questions which are specific, answerable, and with manageable parameters. Students will learn to write clear and focused questions and sub-questions which will guide them throughout the research process. |
| 8 | Literature Review | In this week, we will discuss the background section which is a significant portion of your proposal and is an extensive review of the literature related to your topic. Students will learn to discuss what the existing literature is about and highlight any gaps, issues or contentions that arise. |
| 9 | Theoretical Framework | This week covers how to choose theory and use it to justify your research questions and objectives. We will discuss theoretical uses and how they are used to investigate the student’s topic of interest. |
| 10 | Issues of Methodology | In this week, students will learn how they intend to carry out the research and choose the most applicable research method tools. We will also discuss participant selection, sampling, and other useful methods relevant to research. |
| 11 | Styles & References | In this week, we will explore common referencing styles, in-text citations, reference lists, and other technical aspects of a good bibliography. |
| 12 | Presentation of Thesis Proposal | Students will give a brief presentation of their proposal. |
